Thursday, August 04, 2011

Business owners take notice - Foursquare wants you to get involved with their service.

They have announced on their blog that their pages for businesses or now "self-serve" and open to everyone - big or small.

For some time now, Foursquare has been handling the business pages development in-house. For about a year and a half they have handled the creation of these pages for over 3000 organizations like the New York Times, MTV and Tiffany & Co.

Have you utilized location-based services for your business? Let us know in the comments.

Now they have decided to let business deal with their Foursquare pages themselves. Here are the new features of "Foursquare Business Pages" -
  • Reach the whole foursquare community with your Tips and check-ins (and push those check-ins to both Facebook Pages and Twitter).
  • Let entire teams of people manage the same Page. With our new tool, you can make multiple people Page ‘managers,’ so that they can all contribute. It’s perfect for big organizations.
  • From the web or your mobile phone, you can upload photos to your Tips and check-ins. It’s great for making them really shine for all of your followers.
  • And, when your page is complete and you’ve added a few Tips, you’ll be featured in our Page Gallery.
Now, small businesses can interact with the location-based app in the same way that everyday users do. You know, check-in to locations, post tips, to-do lists, add friends and interact with other people through check-in comments. Foursquare wants to move beyond location services a become a full fledged social network, and they are making a push for that right now.

The location-based service has already allowed businesses to offer special deals to customers via specific check-in requirements and mayorships. And just recently they announced a partnership with daily deals service Groupon.

Foursquare might just be another social media presence that you need to add to your business strategy. To get started with a business page, head here.
