Google has officially launched a program it started testing last year, in which the company sends photographers around to small businesses to photograph the inside of stores, and post the photos on Google Place Pages. This should be a significant boost for the content of these Place Pages.

Google's Place Pages have become to the go-to place for local business information for a lot of people. That's simply because Google itself is the go-to place, and the search engine results returned most prominently are often these pages for local intent queries.

"Just as you can't judge a book by its cover, you can't always judge a business by its exterior," Google says. "Interior photographs are a great way to show potential customers what your business is really like. By enhancing your Place Page, business photos will help your business stand out above the competition and get discovered on Google. Millions of users will be able to visit your establishment from the comfort of their own homes, or preview it to help them decide on a visit. Best of all, it's free!"

Google is starting the program in select cities in the US, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. Any business, however, can apply.
It's worth noting that you can already upload your own photos to your Place Page, but Google says it uses professionally trained photographers with professional lighting, panoramic photos, and all of that good stuff. It's free, so that's nice too, if you can get it.

Google has a FAQ page about the service here, so you can probably find the answers to most of your questions. It sounds like they are willing to work with your schedule, if you're concerned about the photographers disrupting your business, but it also sounds like they won't be doing much to cause a disruption either.
Customers may come into view in the photos, but they blur the faces out like they on Street View for Google Maps. In fact, the company has even compared the project to an interior Street View.

One of the most effective tools in content marketing, is the incredible power of curiosity.

Curiosity creates action
- If you see a great link on Twitter or Facebook, which makes you curious enough, you click it.

- If you see an interesting email subject line in your inbox, which makes you curious enough, you click it.

- If you see a link from an interesting part of a blog post, which makes you curious enough, you click it.

- If you see an interesting sounding title in your feedreader, which makes you curious enough, you click it.

When you want people to take some kind of action after reading your content, you need to motivate them. You need to inspire them to want to take the next step, to; call you, email you, buy now, click your affiliate link, subscribe to your newsletter, etc.

Many marketers make the mistake of writing LONG pages of copy, which provide so much information that the reader is left with much of their curiosity satisfied. This is a bad move!

The more information you give, the less reason there is for the reader to feel like they need to know more. You actually de-motivate them, which is the exact opposite of what you should be doing if you want them to take action.

Content marketing: Quick tip!
Take a look at the level of curiosity your marketing currently generates. Review your marketing messages and the titles you use for your; blog posts, newsletters, special offers, tweets and email bulletins etc. Now, read them from the position of a prospective client or customer.

How keen would that person be, to feel like they HAD to know more?

If the answer is "not very", then focus on building curiosity. Don't worry if you are not sure how. In future posts I will show you how to write copy, which will leave your readers begging to know more! If you don't want to miss it, be sure to subscribe to the blog.
