ZoomInfo does not require users to manually upload contacts, nor is access "metered" based on the number of contacts contributed. As long as the ZoomInfo Contact Contributor plug-in is active, members get access to detailed, just-verified profiles of more than 50 million employees and five million businesses, plus tools for searching and targeting.

"Only our technology innovations are capable of keeping up with the thousands of daily changes across businesses that quickly render B2B contact data obsolete,"said Sam Zales, president of ZoomInfo.

"Businesses rely on accurate contact information to succeed and our new program represents a leap toward our mission of mapping the entire business landscape in real time."

ZoomInfo uses a verification processes for all newly contributed data, including alerting businesspeople before publishing their online profiles and providing tools that allow everyone to enhance and control their profiles.

NFEA Names Next Chief Executive
Doug Caverly | Staff Writer

The National Federation of Enterprise Agencies will soon have new leadership in the form of Dawn Whiteley. Yesterday, the NFEA announced that Whiteley will begin acting as the organization's chief executive after George Derbyshire retires this April.

Derbyshire spent about nine years at the NFEA, so he's sure to be missed. Whiteley has an impressive resume that signals she should be more than capable of taking over the role, however.

An official statement on the matter declared, "Dawn Whiteley joins NFEA from Business Link in Yorkshire where she has undertaken a variety of roles since 2008, most recently as Head of Enterprise. Dawn is highly respected within the sector and has in-depth knowledge of NFEA and its network having served for five years on the NFEA Board, including the role of Chairman for the organisation from 2008-2010."

Then Whiteley herself added, "Whilst the whole of the business support sector is facing significant challenges, NFEA remains the only national network for enterprise support organisations and I'm absolutely delighted to be joining the team to take forward some of the exciting developments we have planned. I've had the pleasure of working with George Derbyshire for the whole of his time with the NFEA and want to acknowledge the role that he's played in strengthening our position and our network - I recognise that there is still much work to do, but we have some very firm foundations from which to build."

So stay tuned for the NFEA to both stay on track and perhaps tackle some new challenges in the months ahead.

Congrats and good luck to both Whiteley and Derbyshire.

Home-Based Businesses Continue To Grow
Mike Sachoff | Staff Writer

Home-based businesses rebounding with economy

Even with the difficult conditions that have characterized the U.S. economy over the past three years, the number of home-based businesses and corporate home offices has continued to increase, according to a new report from IDC.

As the home office household landscape continues to change, so too does the type of technologies these households depend on. PCs will remain central to home worker productivity, and portable devices will continue to account for the majority of total annual shipments to this market; the number of notebook-owning home office households will increase by 5% annually — the highest growth rate of any home office technology category.
Single-function printer penetration will continue to decline rapidly, reflecting home office households' growing preference for MFPs and their multiple capabilities. By the end of 2015, nearly three-quarters of networked home office households will be wireless-enabled. Smartphones are rapidly becoming an indispensable home office asset.

"Home office households continue to spend more on advanced technology than households in general," said Justin Jaffe, senior research analyst for Small and Medium-Sized Business and Home Office Research at IDC.

"With economic conditions continuing to improve, these households will continue to lead the way for technology adoption across a variety of categories from notebook computers and wireless networks to mobile phones."

Additional findings of the study include:

*The home office market will add nearly 2.0 million home-based businesses by 2015, with over 450,000 net new home-based businesses per year in 2013 and 2014.

*The need to be more productive is translating into extended workdays for professionals, and the number of home office households used by corporate employees to work outside of normal business hours will surpass 27 million at the end of 2015.

*Telecommuting continues to be an economic bellwether — when times are tough, many return to the corporate office, giving up potential productivity gains for closer daily contact with colleagues and supervisors. Improving economic conditions will lead to a net annual increase of approximately 180,000 telecommuters each year through 2015.

Small Biz Owners Express Hopefulness To Sage
Doug Caverly | Staff Writer

Firm finds owners expect improvements this year

Over the past few months, representatives from software and services firm Sage have visited with small business clients in four American cities, gauging their success and asking for their thoughts. Now Sage has formed a sort of outlook on the current state of things for small businesses, and it's not bad.

Jennifer Warawa, the senior director of partner programs at Sage, said in a statement, "[A]ttendees indicated that while the construction and real estate sectors have taken a serious beating over the past couple of years, the real estate market is slowly coming back, and non-profits are regaining some momentum. While they are cautious, many small businesses are hoping that things will continue to improve in 2011."
That's encouraging news. We've of course seen more than a few signs that the economy is recovering (and the Dow is up 0.67 percent so far today if you're interested in another positive tidbit), but word directly from small business owners has to carry extra weight.

There are just a few potential problems to watch out for as everyone waits for things to return to normal. Warawa explained, "The top concerns voiced by our attendees were running their businesses on reduced staff, dealing with rising costs and regulatory issues, attracting and keeping new customers, waiting for consumers to start spending again, and finding ways to retain skilled employees."

The four cities Sage toured were Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, and New York, by the way, and Sage claims to support 3.2 million small and mid-sized business customers.

Americans More Optimistic About Economic Outlook

Americans More Optimistic About Economic Outlook

Do you share their optimism? Yes or No

Americans More Optimistic About Economic Outlook
Mike Sachoff | Staff Writer

Americans indicate their financial future looks brighter, due to a more optimistic economic outlook, according to a new report from the Principal Financial Group.

Despite the economic difficulties of the past two years, more than a quarter (28 percent) of employees and 20 percent of retirees are optimistic regarding their economic outlook for 2011. Nearly half (45 percent) of workers and 57 percent of retirees are cautious. Only 15 percent of workers and 17 percent of retirees indicate they are pessimistic.

"As their confidence in the economy improves, Americans are starting to rekindle their sense of hope and look ahead to long-term possibilities," said Luke Vandermillen, vice president of retirement and investor services at the Principal Financial Group.

PR Newswire Talks About The Google Panda Update - Watch Now

"Now that they've moved past the point of simply riding out the storm, Americans are beginning to dream again about their financial future."

While nearly half (48 percent) of workers are aware of the amount of money they need to set aside in order to comfortably retire, less than a third (30 percent) believe they are saving enough money to do so. The number of workers who have not yet planned for retirement remains relatively unchanged, at 24 percent, only a 2 percentage point decrease from the previous quarter.

"As Americans look to the future, they must remember to stay disciplined when it comes to planning and long-term savings. Without a plan in place, Americans are putting their retirement dreams at risk," said Vandermillen.

Is the government hindering small business growth? Tell Us Here

Small Businesses See Growth In 2011
Mike Sachoff | Staff Writer

Half of small business owners (50%) are optimistic about their chances for growth in 2011, according to a new survey released by Paychex.

At the same time, nearly half (47%) report that recent government regulations have slowed or prevented growth.

Tax changes (56 percent), healthcare reform (39 percent), and state regulations in response to budgetary challenges (25 percent) were cited as the top three regulatory issues most impacting small businesses. The research found that 61 percent of respondents have seen more government regulation over the past five years.

When asked about what business issues "keep them up at night," uncertainty about the economy, the need to add customers and revenue, and concerns over cash flow were the most common responses.

"After several extremely difficult years for small businesses, 2011 is shaping up as a year when indicators of progress and growth appear to be moving in the right direction for many categories of small business," said Martin Mucci, Paychex president and CEO.

The Impact of IBM's Watson on Healthcare - Watch the Video!

"While regulation clearly weighs heavily on the minds of small business owners, optimism for growth and plans for adding employees bode well for small businesses in particular and the U.S. economy in general."

Respondents were also asked their opinions about employee benefits. Fifty-nine percent of small business owners said offering health insurance to be important, while 47 percent consider it important to offer retirement benefits. However, only 29 percent and 17 percent of all small business owners offer health insurance and 401(k) benefits, respectively. Among companies with 5 to 50 employees, 57 percent offer health insurance, with 13 percent planning to do so soon, while 39 percent offered 401(k) plans.

"While concerns about cost likely serve as a barrier to offering benefits for small business owners, the costs may not necessarily be as burdensome as owners might think," said Mucci.

"For example, we have found that by working closely with health insurance providers and our clients, we can develop health insurance programs that are affordable for small businesses and help them meet their goals of providing adequate coverage."

Better Labor Laws Could Create 50,000 New Businesses
Mike Sachoff | Staff Writer

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce said today states could create nearly 750,00 jobs and 50,000 new businesses by streamlining employment regulations.

The Chamber released a study, conducted by Seyfarth Shaw LLP and Navigant Economics, revealing that states with the largest burden of labor and employment regulation are missing opportunities to cut unemployment and create new business startups.

The study shows that if each state were to improve their regulatory climates to the level discussed in the report, the effect would be equivalent to a one-time boost of 746,462 net new jobs nationwide. In addition, the rate of new business formation would increase by 12%, resulting in the creation of 51,590 new firms nationally each year.

"Without cost to state governments or the federal government - or the taxpayers - states can take steps now to improve their economic conditions and begin to prime the pump of job creation and new business formation," said Lisa Rickard, president of the Workforce Freedom Initiative.

"The goal of this study is to provide state policymakers with an objective view of how policies in their states compare with policies in other states, and perhaps more importantly, how reforms can accelerate economic growth."

Based on the results of Seyfarth Shaw's survey, Navigant Economics developed an Employment Regulation Index (ERI) to sort the state into one of three tiers: good, fair, or poor, to reflect their overall regulatory environment. Fifteen states are in the "good" category, 20 in the "fair" category, and 15 in the "poor" category.

"Governors across the country from both parties are looking at ways to encourage economic growth in their states, and reform of state labor and employment regulations could make an important contribution to returning the U.S. to a more rapid-growth trajectory," said Rickard.
